Terms & Conditions of Hire
I acknowledge the below instructions for this craft with particular reference to the points below (1-7 apply to ALL craft and for powered vessels points 8-15 also apply):
- Responsibility as hirer of the craft and for the craft’s safety and security and that of the passengers.
- Responsibility towards the environment, wildlife and other users of the river and river banks.
- I understand that buoyancy aid/life jackets are available and should they be provided at my request, I will make sure they do fit and are suitable for the members of the party who wear them.
- Safety precautions to be taken when moving about on deck and approaching bridges, locks and other obstructions such as pontoons and landing stages, underwater obstructions such as debris and rocks.
- I am aware that the consumption of alcohol or drugs either by myself or any member of my party may impair my ability to operate the craft safely and affect the safety of the passengers or users of the craft.
- I will inspect the craft and be sure that I am satisfied as to its condition.
- I understand that hires that return late will incur extra charges.
- Instruction on boat handling, the safe operation of locks correct steering position, manoeuvring, mooring, coming alongside and man overboard drill. I understand that it will be my responsibility if my ropes foul the propeller, and I will be charged accordingly.
- I will observe and comply to the of speed limits and river navigation requirements (8 kilometres per hour, walking speed).
- I will be aware of the Location of fire extinguisher(s) and use thereof.
- I will be aware of Engine safety precautions and use of engine including starting and stopping and location of water intakes if appropriate.
- I will be aware of the Location of battery switches and fuel isolation switch (the latter not to be used except in an emergency).
- I will adhere to the rules of staying on the main stream and not navigate on the River Cherwell or any other tributaries or shallow water.
- I will adhere to the rules of keeping on the right side of the river and to limit my speed to a maximum of 8 kilometres per hour (5 miles per hour) and less where necessary.
- The security deposit is held to ensure the boat is returned at the agreed time and for any damage up to the deposit amount. Any damage caused over this amount is also the responsibility of the hirer for whatever reason.
